Der junge Künstler und Kreativ-Kopf aus Bristol, James Beau Barclay begann schon im jungen Alter von 9 Jahren mit dem Gitarre spielen. Mit 14 Jahren schrieb er dann schon die ersten eigenen Songs und veröffentlichte im Jahr 2016 seine erste EP Same Inside. Mittlerweile lebt der talentierte Musiker in London und arbeitet als Designer und Illustrator. Don’t Wanna Know ist bereits die dritte veröffentlichte Single in diesem Jahr. Und von mir aus kann es gerne so weiter gehen!
James Beau Barclay klingt auf Don’t Wanna Know wie eingangs schon erwähnt nach einer Super-Saiyajin-Fusion aus Fil Bo Riva, King Krule, Tom Misch, Yellow Days und Mac Ayres. Die Musik klingt leicht und funky mit einer leichten Jazz-Note. Neo-Soul, so wie ich ihn mir wünsche. Die Drums sind voller Energie, abwechslungsreich und erinnern mich an den einen oder anderen Chet Faker oder Yellow Days Song.
Der Gesang sticht jedoch am meisten hervor. Eine tiefe, männliche Stimme, rau genug um aus der Masse heraus zu stechen. Dabei aber melodisch genug, um mich als Hörer an der Hand zu nehmen und durch den Song zu führen.
Besonders gut gefallen an Don’t Wanna Know hat mir wirklich die Ähnlichkeit mit so vielen Künstlern, die ich wirklich sehr mag. Gleichzeitig bleibt James Beau Barclay aber seiner eigenen Schiene treu und erzeugt damit Authentizität und einen Wiedererkennungswert. Wenn dir der Song gefällt, solltest du definitiv auch mal seine anderen Releases anhören.
