Der Oktober verabschiedet sich mit einem die Gesellschaft spaltenden Event: Die neuen Top Ten Picks von Pickymagazine werden veröffentlicht! …Nein, nicht Halloween, du Amateur. Doch genug gewitzelt, du kennst das Spiel: Meine Top 10 Songs der letzten vier Wochen mit kurzem Kommentar hier in absteigender Reihenfolge. Ganz unten erwartet dich dann die Playlist. Viel Spaß beim lesen 🙂

10. Parcels – Exotica

Ja, die Parcels, was machen wir mit denen? Wer die Review gelesen hat, weiß bestimmt, dass das Debüt, in meinen Augen ein absoluter Flop gewesen ist. Exotica war der einzige Song, der mir irgendwie im Gedächtnis geblieben ist, und weil ich die Parcels wirklich mag, hab ich ihnen einfach mal den letzten Platz in meinen Oktober-Charts reserviert. Ganz nach dem Motto: Dabei sein ist alles. Am spannendsten finde ich tatsächlich diesen kleinen Teil gegen Ende des Songes, der echt anders als alles bisher dagewesene klingt. Naja, machen wir mal weiter.

9. Arionce – Warrior

Die drei Indie-Rocker Arionce aus Berlin machen bereits seit 2016 Musik, die eher etwas laid-back und psychedelisch ist. Mit Warrior haben sie jetzt jedoch eine laute und wilde Rocknummer abgeliefert. Vergleichbar mit einem Sturm auf hoher See ist Warrior sehr dynamisch und abwechslungsreich zu hören. Leider zu spät im Oktober entdeckt, sonst hätte er durchaus Potential gehabt, einen der höheren Ränge zu belegen! Die Review dazu sollte übrigens bald erscheinen 😉

8. Levin Strehlow – Gespenster

Gespenster von Levin Strehlow ist ein kleiner und einfacher Song über das stehen gelassen werden. Aber nicht analog, sondern digital. Also, wenn du jemandem schreibst und du keine Antwort zurückbekommst. Kannst mir nicht erzählen, dass dir das nicht bekannt vorkommt. Manchmal macht man es selbst, manchmal wird es mit einem gemacht, beides ist irgendwie unangenehm, aber am Ende geht das Leben doch weiter. Trotzdem ist Levin Strehlows Sicht auf dieses neumodische Verhalten sympathisch, einfühlsam und einfach schön zu hören! Die Review zu seiner EP findest du hier.

7. Kyle Dion – Brown

Kyle Dion sieht ein bisschen aus wie Lenny Kravitz, klingt wie Mac Ayres und Brown ist einfach nur ein fettes Brett. So sexy! Die Gitarren und die Drums. Das ist moderner RnB Freunde! Gesanglich ist das auch die volle Punktzahl. Zuerst tief, dann geht es hoch in die Kopfstimme. Der Song ist ein guter Spießer-Detektor: Mach den mal an auf einer Party und achte darauf, wer tanzt und wer nicht. Mehr davon bitte, Kyle Dion! 6. Loyle Carner – Ottolenghi

Bei Loyle Carner habe ich immer das Gefühl, dass er seine Texte vor dem einrappen nochmal von seiner Mutter Korrektur lesen lässt. Keine Schimpfwörter, keine Beleidigungen, einfach nur politisch korrekter, gesellschaftsfähiger Rap auf jazzige Beats. Man könnte auch sagen, Loyle Carner ist die Incarneration britischen Hip Hops. Ottolenghi ist ein flüssiges Stück (lol, wie paradox) Rapmusik, welche von Jordan Rakei noch mit Kokosöl eingerieben wurde.

5. Marter – Wonderful Day – alt. version

Ich hab keine Ahnung, wer Marter ist und was für Musik er sonst macht, aber Wonderful Day ist glaube ich einer der schönsten Reggae-Songs, die ich jemals gehört habe. So unfassbar smoothe Musik und noch seichterer Gesang obendrauf. Wenn man die Augen zu macht beim hören, dann geht die Sonne auf, wirklich! Das musst du mal ausprobieren! 🙂

4. Tora – Too Much

Der Song ist mir zufällig vorgeschlagen worden, als ich total versoffen morgens durch Berlin gekatert bin. Tora machen ja prinzipiell ganz geile Dinge mit Synthesizern, aber bei Too Much haben sie sich wirklich selbst übertroffen. Das Besondere an diesem Song ist meiner Meinung nach die fragile Stimme, die ein echt tolles Thema besingt (I Love you too much – ohh, wie romantisch) und der scharfe Kontrast zwischen dem eher ruhigen Rhythmus-Teil und diesem flotten Synthie Arpeggio. Toll, Toll, Supertoll! Meine Nummer Vier für diesen Monat.

3. Cage The Elephant – Cigarette Daydreams

Auch wenn das Lied kein neues Release ist und ich ihn eigentlich vor langer Zeit in den Tiefen meiner Playlisten vergessen hatte, ist er doch auf magischem Wege wieder zu mir zurückgekehrt. Obwohl der Song für mich eher zu Nightdreams gepasst hat, ist er doch der optimale Soundtrack zum eine Kippe rauchen und über die Welt nachdenken. Schöner Song, authentisch, relatable. Would do it again 5*. Daher meine Nummer Drei 🙂

2. Men I Trust – Tailwhip

Men I Trust habe ich im September live in Köln gesehen und mich danach noch gut mit dem Bassisten und der Sängerin unterhalten. Am Merchstand habe ich eine Single mit einem witzigen Print gesehen, Tailwhip stand dort drauf. Leider hatte ich meine Moneten schon alle ausgegeben, weswegen ich mir die Nummer dann zu Hause anhören musste. Zack Nummer Zwei meiner Top Ten Picks! An dem Song mag ich Emmas Vocals sehr und die Bassline ist auch sehr tight.

1. Some Sprouts – Never Leave

Die Some Sprouts haben es mir irgendwie angetan! Mitte Oktober haben sie ihre neue EP IMMT veröffentlicht und damit der Welt tolle Musik geschenkt! Obwohl auf IMMT auch viele flotte Songs drauf sind, hat mich doch der letzte Song am meisten berührt. Es ist irgenwie die Kombination aus dem Gitarrensound und dem Text, die die allgemein aufkommende Wintermood musikalisch zusammenfassen. Never Leave ist für mich die Nummer eins im Oktober gewesen und wird wohl auch noch lange Zeit in meiner Rotation sein! Meine Nummer Eins der Top Ten Picks.
