Keiner weiß, wo er herkommt, aber plötzlich ist er da: Vorzeige-Schwede Augustine präsentiert sich mit seiner Debüt-Single Luzon als Künstler, der sich optisch irgendwo zwischen Boy Pablo, Rick Astley und verzogenem „Papa zahlt“ Arschloch aus einem American-Teenage Movie bewegt. Musikalisch ist der Song die typisch skandinavische Packung. Faszinierend.
Augustine ist 22 Jahre alt, kommt ursprünglich aus Göteborg und lebt jetzt in Stockholm. Praktisch das Pendant zum deutschen „lebt und arbeitet in Berlin“. Musikalisch inspirieren lassen hat sich der Newcomer in seiner Kindheit laut eigener Aussage von Bob Dylan, Foster The People, Maggie Rogers & Phoenix.
Luzon (klingt wie ein dubioser Energie-Konzern) ist tatsächlich schwer zu beschreiben. Obwohl die einzelnen Teile an sich ziemlich normal sind, hat Augustine da echt was ganz spezielles draus gebastelt. Wie das autistische Kind in der Hasengruppe aus deinem örtlichen Kindergarten. Ich kann den Song selbst noch nicht genau einordnen, weil er in so viele Richtungen geht, aber dass er mir gefällt ist schon mal ganz sicher.
Also gut, was haben wir? Songstruktur und Instrumentierung bleiben den ganzen Song über relativ konstant. Wir starten nach zwei Takten VST-Bläsern sofort mit dem Kern von Luzon. Die kleinen Percussions sind Disko. Die Snare schmatzt ordentlich, das ist auf jeden Fall Hip Hop. Der pulsierende Synthie als Basis der ganzen Geschichte ist auch vertraut, aber nicht klar einzuordnen. Ja und dann singt Augustine ja auch noch.
Die Sache fängt ganz unscheinbar an. Irgendwelche indie-klingenden Songfetzen, ausgesprochen mit dieser skandinavischen Chilligkeit. Soweit, so gut. Doch dann passiert es. Ich weiß nicht, was während der Gesangsaufnahmen passiert ist, aber der Part ab 1:05, kam ziemlich unerwartet. Ich spreche jetzt einfach mal aus, was alle denken: Wahrscheinlich hat ihm da der Produzent ordentlich in die Eier gegriffen, denn anders kann ich mir diese Höhen nicht vorstellen. Am Anfang klang es irgendwie befremdlich, aber spätestens nach dem dritten Durchgang war ich begeistert von diesem Kontrast der Gesangsmelodie.
Augustine hat mit Luzon wirklich was ganz Spezielles abgeliefert. Die Single klingt irgendwie glücklich, melancholisch, energetisch, beruhigend und inspirierend gleichzeitig. Dazu dann noch das Musikvideo, mit dem geilen Licht und dem mediterranen Ambiente. Und ich sitze hier im Büro und draußen regnet es. Da bekomme ich richtiges Fernweh.
Ich fühle mich beim hören von Luzon so, als würde ich jetzt schon etwas vermissen, was noch nicht mal passiert ist, sondern bloß als Zukunfts-Fantasie in meiner Vorstellung existiert.
Wie geht’s weiter? Ob von Augustine in Zukunft noch was kommt, oder ob das ganze Projekt wieder nur ein niveauloser Gag von Joko & Klaas war, kann ich leider nicht sagen. Der Typ kam wirklich aus dem Nichts und knallte mir Luzon vor die Füße. Dann verschwand er wieder. Ich wünsche mir da definitiv noch mehr! Eine EP oder so wäre ganz nice. Augustine hat seinen ganz eigenen Stil, der auf jeden Fall hörbar ist.
