Das c/o Pop-Festival ist ein bisschen wie das Schlaraffenland für alle, die gerne auf Konzerte gehen. Einmal im Jahr verwandelt sich das ganze belgische Viertel in Köln in ein riesiges Festival – Das einzige, was dann noch fehlt, sind die Festival-Chicks mit Blumen im Haar und Glitter im Gesicht. Von Mittwoch bis Sonntag gibt es viel zu viele Konzerte um hier alle aufzuzählen. Viele große Hausnummern, aber auch kleinere Acts bekommen hier die Chance, in ausgelassener Atmosphäre ihre Kunst zu präsentieren! Manche Konzerte kosten Geld, andere wiederum sind kostenlos. Gant toll: Am Super-Samstag gibt es alle Konzerte umsonst! Solltest du irgendwann mal zu der Zeit in Köln sein, dann darfst du dieses Event auf keinen Fall verpassen!
Da ich aber pleite und verpeilt bin, habe ich die Gigs am Mittwoch, Donnerstag und Freitag verpasst. Am Samstag habe ich jedoch alles mitgenommen, was ging: Damit meine ich Dote, L.A. Salami und Das Paradies. Ich durfte jeweils ein Konzert von 45-60 Minuten erleben. In diesem Artikel beschreibe ich meine Eindrücke von den Bands und ihren Auftritten.
Dote
Dote ist eine Studentenband aus Essen. Alle vier studieren was mit Musik – die Erwartungen können also etwas höher geschraubt werden, ohne enttäuscht zu werden. #RealityCheck: Musikalisch auf jeden Fall on Point – Geile Solos, tighte Drums mit leichtem Punk-Drive (hat wohl früher mal in einer Punk-Band gespielt, aber wer hat das nicht?). Von den zwei Sängern muss ich ehrlich zugeben, dass ich den Drummer besser fand. Eine Band mit Potenzial, die man ruhig im Hinterkopf behalten kann: Feel-Good Indie mit vielen Gitarren-Solos. Die gibt es nicht mehr so häufig.
Von der Performance her merkte man, dass die Jungs noch relativ jung sind (als wäre ich mit 22 Jahren älter, lol), denn irgendwie wirkte der Auftritt unsicher, ich weiß nicht, wie ich es anders beschreiben soll. Etwas verhalten, obwohl das bei dem musikalischen Level eigentlich gar nicht nötig ist. Der Frontsänger hat ein paar Moves gebracht, die mir irgendwie etwas zu einstudiert aussahen: Das rockige auf-die-Kick-Drum-stellen, oder den anderen Gitarristen abknutschen. Obwohl, das fand ich dann süß. Die Merch-Ansage zwischendurch hat etwas die Stimmung gekillt. Ich persönlich finde, dass muss einer Band nicht unangenehm sein: Immer dieses Rumgedruckse: Wir lieben Musik, aber müssen auch Miete zahlen – Wir haben Merch! Kauft den DA,oder fahrt zur Hölle! Fertig.
Alles in allem aber echt ein schönes Konzert, mit Studenten-Band-Flair. Dote hat auf jeden Fall Potenzial! Die neueste EP der vier Jungs heißt Centre Court und kann auf Spotify angehört werden! Mein persönliches Highlight: Der Herr Solo-Gitarrist hat manchmal so geguckt, also würde ihm gerade jemand die Eier massieren. Er hat es halt einfach gefühlt, das war nice!
L.A. Salami
Von L.A. Salami hatte ich ehrlicherweise etwas anderes erwartet. Der Name klingt etwas nach: Ihr könnt mir nix, weil ich das alles eh nicht ernst nehme – Ganz im Gegenteil: L.A. Salami nimmt das alles ziemlich ernst! Aber alles der Reihe nach. Die Band besteht aus vier Leuten: L.A. selbst, natürlich ganz vorne mit A- und E-Gitarre und Mundharmonika und dann seine Künstler-Dudes am Bass, an der zweiten E-Gitarre und der Drummer im Rücken. Letzterer könnte auch von Peach Pit geklaut sein, die sahen sich wirklich ähnlich. Die Jungs waren allesamt Profi-Musiker die ganz genau wussten, was sie tun. Witzig: Der Bass- und Gitarre-Spieler haben sich regelmäßig zwischen den Songs abgewechselt, das war ziemlich cool. Man hat gemerkt, dass alle vier mit Herzblut dabei sind.
L.A. (ich hab ein Foto mit ihm, also darf ich nur seinen Vornamen benutzen, wenn ich von ihm erzähle) hat mich ein bisschen an Matty Healy von The 1975 erinnert – nur eben in schwarz: Großer, schlaksiger Typ, der leicht von oben seine Erkenntnisse mit dem (unwissenden) Publikum teilt – nur die Weinflasche die lasziv getrunken wird, hat noch gefehlt. Von der ganzen Art her sich zu bewegen und zu sprechen, hat er mich auch an eine ältere Dame erinnert, die mit diesem ganzen neumodischen Scheiß einfach nicht warm wird. Sehr sympathisch.
Intellektueller Indie-Rock mit Americana-Einflüssen
Musikalisch war das Konzert einfach nur großartig: Ich hatte mich im Vorfeld schon ein bisschen durch L.A. Salamis Musik geklickt, konnte sie aber nicht so richtig einordnen. Nach dem Konzert kann ich folgende Beschreibung abgeben: Intellektueller Indie-Rock (man könnte auch Avantgarde schreiben wenn man sein Musikjournalisten-Ego raushängen lassen möchte) mit ziemlich unerwarteten Americana-Einflüssen: Manche Songs wurden mit einer Mundharmonika begonnen oder begleitet, dazu gab es noch zwei oder drei Songs die mit einer richtigen Country-Stimmung erfrischten. Könnte zum Abspann eines entspannten Roadmovies aus den 90ern, durch die USA passen.
Doch auch der Indie-Rock wurde keinesfalls vernachlässigt, manche Songs wurden sogar richtig ekstatisch ausgespielt: Alle haben sich richtig reingekniet, beim Gitarristen dachte ich kurz, der explodiert gleich. Dann ist der Song zu Ende, L.A. bedankt sich mit einem freundlich genervten Yeah, Thank You und verdreht lächelnd die Augen.
An manchen Stellen habe ich mich wie bei einem Poetry-Slam gefühlt, oder besser: Wie bei einer politischen Verlautbarung im segregierten Amerika. Ein softer Drum-Beat, dazu eine schlichte Bassline und L.A. fängt an zu reden. Erst langsam, dann immer schneller und schneller. Er redet sich in Exstase. Zwar ergibt nicht alles was er sagt wirklich Sinn, doch trotzdem wirkt es sehr klug, denn es fallen Wörter wie Freedom, Individuality und Reality. Dazu gibt es androgynes Gefuchtele mit den Armen. In dem Moment weiß ich nicht, ob das die beiläufige Ankündigung für den nächsten Song, oder schon der nächste Song selbst ist. Irgendwann hört er dann auf, die Leute klatschen, also klatsche ich mich.
Nach dem letzten Stück bedankt er sich noch ganz bescheiden: Er nennt nicht seinen Namen, oder fordert die Leute auf, irgendwem zu folgen, auch der obligatorische, verklemmte Kauf-Aufruf Ich-will-ja-nicht-geldgeil-wirken, aber-unser-Merchstand-ist-da-drüben bleibt aus. Applaus, Applaus, er geht von der Bühne. 10 Minuten später erscheint er erneut und fängt an mit Fans rum zu scherzen und nebenbei seinen Krempel abzubauen. Ich mache ein Foto mit der sehr freundlichen und leidenschaftlichen Band. Mein persönliches Highlight des Konzertes: Der Song Science + Buddhism = a Reality You Can Know. Klasse Titel, klasse Text.
Das Paradies
Das Paradies hätte ich fast nicht erleben dürfen: Ich war etwas später bei der Location und anscheinend waren schon alle Karten verkauft, es gab nur noch die Gästeliste. Ich habe mich einen Moment wie vorm Berghain gefühlt. Zufällig ist dem Türsteher jedoch der Eintritts-Stempel aus der Hand gefallen und ich wollte ihn auffangen und dabei ist der Stempel dann genau auf den rechten Unterarm gefallen und hat mir das c/o Pop-Siegel verpasst. Schelmische Blicke werden ausgetauscht, dann stolpere ich die Treppen hinunter.
Die Band von Das Paradies war eigentlich gar keine Band. Eher ein Solo-Act mit Support: Eine Gitarre mit Felix (selbes Prinzip, ich hab ein Foto mit ihm), dazu ein Diät-Drumkit und zwei Synthies. Fertig. War aber gar nicht schlimm, denn das Konzert war trotzdem fett.
Gleich zu Beginn kam die Frage, wie es uns dem Publikum denn so ginge. Wie soll es uns halt gehen? Wir haben Bock auf Unterhaltung. Mach was. Dann kam aus dem Publikum die selbe Frage zurück und da brach dann der Damm: Gestern in Halle (Saale) gespielt, heute morgen nach Darmstadt gefahren, um dort mittags einen Gig zu spielen, danach flott nach Köln getuckert, um uns jetzt hier den Abend zu versüßen. Absolut verständlich, dass die Luft irgendwann raus ist.
Die Musik hat Festival-Potenzial
Obwohl die Jungs nur zu dritt waren, haben sie Stimmung gemacht. Keine Party-Stimmung, aber immerhin etwas. Musikalisch eindeutig dem Indie zuzuordnen, allerdings mit einer Synthie-Note, man könnte auch sagen Syndie-Musik (hehe). Interessanterweise hatten die Songs alle einen Singer-Songwriter-Charakter, waren also sehr zerbrechlich, mit einem Fokus auf den Texten – gleichzeitig aber auch energetisch genug, um potenziell motivierte Konzertgänger zum Tanzen zu bewegen. Um den Funken vollends überspringen zu lassen, hätte vielleicht noch ein Bass gefehlt. Es könnte aber auch einfach an oben genannten Umständen gelegen haben. Die Musik hat prinzipiell Festival-Potenzial, an dem Abend war sie aber eher gemütlich. Schade fand ich es, dass sie nicht Das Universum weiß es doch auch nicht gespielt haben, mein Lieblingssong auf dem gerade neu erschienen Album Goldene Zukunft. Persönliches Highlight waren natürlich die Küchentücher auf den Snares, die wie bei Annenmaykantereit den independent-Charakter der Band unterstreichen sollen.
Nach dem Konzert habe ich mich kurz mit Felix unterhalten und ihm mein Lob ausgesprochen: Mein Kommentar, welches obviously als Kompliment gemeint war: Ihr klingt zu tight, um ne deutsche Band zu sein. (Damit habe ich darauf angespielt, dass es abseits von Tim „Ich hatte mal nen Radiohit, deswegen bin ich was besonderes“ Bendzko und Mark „Ich nehm immer den selben Beat, aber keiner merkts“ Forster auch tatsächlich gute, deutschsprachige Musik gibt. Verwirrter Gesichtsausdruck. Das Kompliment ist leider nicht angekommen – Also nochmal: Das war ein Kompliment!
