Soulection Black Label: Hablot Brown besteht aus fünf Songs und hat eine Gesamtspielzeit von 16 Minuten, falls das wen interessiert. Alle Songs sind richtige Gold-Nuggets, stehen für sich und weisen eine extreme Sexiness auf, allen voran der EP-Mittelpunkt Pressure. Doch alles zu seiner Zeit.
Wir beginnen die EP mit dem souligen Reason, welcher Maths Time Joy mitproduziert hat. Dieser hat schon mit Mahalia oder Mary J. Blige zusammengearbeitet, ist also eine Hausnummer im BIZ. Grandioser, vielschichtiger Opener, der klingt, wie wenn John Mayer und Tom Misch ein gemeinsames Kind hätten. Die harmonische Art von jazzigen Akkorden fangen beim hören immer wieder die Aufmerksamkeit. Kurz und kompakt, präsentiert sich die Grundessenz des Titels. Dazu ein lockerer, plätschernder Drum-Beat. Simpel, geht aber vorwärts, wie Forrest Gump.

Easy For You holt mich dann genau dort ab, wo Reason mich stehen lässt. Ich höre zuerst die Akkordfolge, mache mich also mit dem Thema des Songs vertraut. Als nächstes kommen reverbigen Vocals dazu und in meinem Kopf verbinden sich schon beide Elemente zum fertigen Song. Dann geht es los: Die Drums übernehmen wieder Kontrolle über meine Nackenmuskulatur und lassen meinen Kopf rhythmisch mitgrooven. Tightes Teil.
Lonely werden auch die negativen Stimmen in meinem Kopf, sobald ich Lonely höre. Man hört Grillen zirpen und wabernde Rhodes-Akkorde über die Landschaft ziehen. Kavinsky fährt kurz im Cabrio an mir vorbei und gibt mir einen Nightcall. Die Sonne geht langsam unter und hinterlässt dabei einen lila-pinken Himmel. Ich verlasse meinen Körper und schwebe empor in Richtung Stratosphäre. Dort wartet bereits Linus Lester-Hodges auf mich, um mir seine Zeilen in die Ohren zu singen. Dann fliegt einer der Zwillinge auf seinem Keyboard vorbei und beginnt ein Solo zu spielen, welches von einer Gitarre beendet wird. Ein Träumchen für die Öhrchen. Hihi.
Hablot Brown klingen wie das Baby von Tom Misch und John Mayer
Pressure holt mich sofort wieder auf die Erde zurück. Der Bass ist so funky und erdig, ich stecke sofort wieder in meinem Körper. Gabrielle Current liefert hier feminine Feuerunterstützung an den Vocals. Meiner Meinung nach genau der richtige Ausgleich für den Song und auch die EP an sich. Dieses Feature sorgt für maximale Diversität und Abwechslung auf der Platte. Die Tension die bei 1:35 durch das Gitarren-Solo erzeugt wird, ist so intensiv, dass ich kurz durchatmen muss. Unfassbar gut. Hablot Brown hat mich vollkommen an den Eiern. Ich höre einfach nur noch zu. Gegen Ende wird die Torte noch mit einem Kyle Dion-artigen Gitarrensolo getoppt und lässt mich wunschlos glücklich und satt zurück. #Fett.
Das Schlusslicht der Platte macht Gone. Die einzige Nummer, die einen ganz simplen Balladen-Rhythmus zur Grundlage hat. Geschmückt mit jazzigen Akkorden und Background-Vocals hat dieser Track etwas sehr Beruhigendes. Klingt sehr nach Movie von Tom Misch, nur mit ein bisschen mehr Schmatz in den Drums. Es klatscht irgendwie mehr. Ein schöner Kontrast zu den restlichen vier Songs und auch eine schöne Verabschiedung. Meine Mood hat sich nach dieser Viertelstunde deutlich gebessert, ist also eine gesunde Alternative zu anderen Aktivitäten, die in der selben Zeit den selben Effekt erzielen. #ifyouknowwhatimean
Was soll ich sagen. Hablot Brown haben hier wirklich ein Meisterwerk geschaffen. Perfekt ausbalanciert, sauber produziert und in vollkommener Harmonie kommen diese fünf Diamanten daher. Ich bin wirklich beeindruckt, wie DIN A4-Seiten. Obwohl die drei nur beschränkt instrumentalisieren können, klingt jeder Song von Anfang bis Ende spannend und hat einen eigenen Charakter. Während die Musik wie Tom Misch oder Mac Ayres klingt, erinnern die Vocals stark an John Mayer. Ich habe wirklich nichts zu meckern. Alles supi. Would recommend. 5/5.
